COLLEEN HANABUSA IS THE OFFICAL DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE
FOR HAWAI‘I’S FIRST CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Hanabusa Receives 70% of Votes in Primary Election

Honolulu, Hawai‘i – Senate President Colleen Hanabusa has won the Democratic primary for Hawai‘i’s First Congressional District.  She received 70% of the votes, defeating opponent Rafael del Castillo.  As the official Democratic candidate, Hanabusa will face Republican Charles Djou in the First Congressional race in the General Election on November 2.

“I am humbled that the people have given me their overwhelming support as their Congressional candidate this November,” said Hanabusa. “We share a commitment to preserving Hawai‘i’s values, and a belief that we need an experienced, effective legislator serving our district in Washington.”

In her bid for Congress, Hanabusa has received the support of numerous coalition groups, including Democracy for America, EMILY’s List, Sierra Club Hawai‘i and NARAL Pro-Choice America.

A practicing attorney, Hanabusa has served in Hawai‘i’s Senate since 1998, and has been Senate President since 2007.  She is the first woman elected by her peers to serve as Senate President, the first woman to lead a chamber of the Hawaii State Legislature, and the first Asian-American woman in the nation to preside over a state legislative body.  For more information about her Congressional campaign, please visit http://www.hanabusa2010.com
